Sagittula stellata E-37
Sagittula stellata E-37 was isolated in 1995 from coastal Georgia seawater by enrichment with lignocellulose from a pulp mill. The bacterium is able to degrade cellulose, lignin, and lignin related compounds, and forms rosette-shaped aggregates in culture. This bacterium is in the marine Rosebacter clade, and like other members of this ecologically-important group, is able to degrade DMSP and other organic sulfur compounds typically found in surface seawater.
