Dinoroseobacter shibae DFL 12

Ecology and Physiology

Dinoroseobacter shibae DFL 12 was isolated from cultures of marine dinoflagellates obtained from the Bay of Tokyo. The strain harbors seven linear plasmids which carry 861 kb of extrachromosomal information. D. shibae is dark red in color (due to a carotenoid with spheroidenone as a major component), produces quorum sensing signaling compound (AHL) with side chain lengths of 18 carbon atoms, and can produce a polymeric capsule in culture.
