Sulfitobacter sp. NAS-14.1
©Dennis Kunkel Microscopy, Inc. Ecology and Physiology Roseobacter clade strain NAS-14.1 was isolated from the North Atlantic Ocean in 2002 as part of an NSF-funded cruise to study the biogeochemistry of organic sulfur compounds. The isolate was cultivated from surface waters with DMSP as a sole carbon source and phylogenetic analysis places it within the Sulfitobacter genus, a group comprised of strains well known for their abilities to transform inorganic and organic sulfur compounds. As an open ocean representative of the clade, genomic and physiological studies of NAS-14.1 complement studies of coastally-derived members of the lineage. For NCBI Genome Page, click here.
